So, why plan for your web site? Why spend the extra time researching keywords, figuring out who your competitors are? These are the questions I ask myself every time I start building a web site. That raises another question. What kind of web site are you trying to build? If you are building a web site because you want customers to know a little more about your business, and you are not really looking for a lot of traffic to your site, then don’t bother. It is not worth your time. However, if you are interested in making a web site, do not have a lot of money, and still want to have a lot of visitors coming to your site, careful planning in the end will save you time. Then will your hard work really PAY off. As you continually add pages, more and more visitors will come and love quality information give them. They will want to visit again and again, continually checking back for more of your valuable information.
A large amount of time will be spent on researching keywords for your web site. In order to get your web site started, you must be able to find keywords that will work for you. You must decide how specific your keyword is going to be in relation to your topic. For example, when starting my first web site, I used the keyword drawing. I thought, since my web site was on drawing, contained many drawings, and used the keyword multiple times throughout each page, that drawing would be a good keyword. It wasn’t. When I started to use keyword research tools I found out the competition for the keyword drawing was insane. Millions of sites were competing with me. So, I knew I had to change something. After a lot of research, I decided I would use the keywords pencil drawings. It did not take long and my site ranked #8 on a Yahoo.com search and #2 on a Yahoo.ca search. My traffic increased, and so did my google adsense revenue.
Learn from my mistakes. Plan for your web site.
